Per Petterson

Everything that was me lay taut and quivering just beneath my skin.

    • Yeah, me, too. Just discovered him. He says so much without really sounding like he’s trying; beautiful writing without a trace of self-consciousness. He can tell half of a story in one sentence: “My mother borrowed money from the brother who had not been shot by the Gestapo while trying to escape from a police station on the south coast in 1943.” This is all we hear of him, this murdered brother, and there’s another whole novel hiding in the shadow of that sentence.
